A “MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S” BALLET
The ambitious South Tucson dance company Dancing in the Streets Arizona makes good on its promises, presenting no less than “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” based on Shakespeare’s classic comedy. Joseph Rodgers, the dance company’s founding artistic director, and SolesteLupu created the ballet choreography.
Special guest artist David Fitzsimmons, editorial cartoonist for the Arizona Daily Star, will provide narration to accompany the ballet stories of the supernatural characters Puck, Oberon and Titania plus their retinue of fairies and sprites. All the roles will be danced by students of Dancing in the Streets Arizona using the famous score composed by Felix Mendelssohn.
“A Midsummer Night’s Dream” will be performed Sunday, June 28, at 2 p.m. in the Proscenium Theatre of the Center for the Arts on the west campus of Pima Community College, 2202 W. Anklam Road. Tickets are $10 general admission, $5 children 12 and under, on sale at the box office or by phone 206-6986. For details, www.ditsaz.org
