JAZZ FOR DANCE STUDENTS
The annual Arizona Jazz Dance Showcase (AJDS), hosted by The
University of Arizona School of Dance celebrates its 20th anniversary this season! AJDS offers
everything a dancer could want; performances, a variety of dance classes,
scholarship auditions for summer programs, as well as an audition opportunity
for the UA School of Dance for interested high school seniors.
On opening night, the Jazz in AZ concert showcases the UA Dance
Ensemble performing the versatile and dynamic repertoire of UA Faculty and
Guest Choreographers. A second performance, The AJDS Invitational Concert is a unique performance of works
selected for their excellence. Each year hundreds of choreographic works are
submitted to be included and selected for the AJDS invitational
performance.
Classes in a variety of dance
techniques infuse the weekend with excitement and energy, including classes
from Jazz Dance Technique/Style, Jazz Combo/Choreography and Master Classes in
Jazz by featured Master Teachers. On Friday afternoon, the optional
Scholarship Class creates the opportunity for dancers to practice auditioning.
Awards to summer dance programs, dance conventions, cash awards and other
prizes give further value to participating.
Interested high school seniors
should take advantage of the UA Dance Program Audition for dancers interested
in majoring in dance at The University of Arizona. The audition includes
ballet, modern and jazz dance techniques and will be followed by a Q&A with
faculty advisers for dancers and their parents. (Note that all requirements
must be fulfilled before this on-campus audition).
Give yourself a long weekend and
jazz it up!
