A TASTE OF SPAIN: SOLEDAD BARRIO & NOCHE FLAMENCA

A TASTE OF SPAIN: SOLEDAD BARRIO & NOCHE FLAMENCA

by Lisa McFarlane

Under the direction of Martin Santangelo, Spain’s award-winning and most successful touring company Noche Flamenca will be gracing the Centenniall Hall stage in all its rhythmic and transformative wonder on Friday, Jan. 28.

The dancers and musicians of Noche Flamenca hail from a region where flamenco is inherited through generations, manifesting the essence, purity, and integrity of one of the world’s most complex and mysterious art forms.  Their transcendent and deeply emotion performances have spanned the world, including New York, Buenos Aires, Greece, Egypt, Australia, along with annual tours to North America.

Santangelo’s wife, Soledad Barrio, is not only a performer but also co-founder of the company.  The New York Times explains that there is “no current ballet dancer in the world” that is “as marvelous as she”.  The performer’s accolades include awards from over twelve different countries, the most recent honor being a Bessie award for Outstanding Creative Achievement.

The company strives to captivate its audiences through live performance and evoke in them the vivid and expansive sea of passion and emotion that is flamenco.  Let them captivate you!
