Intense rhythms, dance steps, voices and guitars

Intense rhythms, dance steps, voices and guitars will be swirling Friday through Sunday, Sept. 18-20. Special guest artists Fanny Ara, a dancer from Spain, will be joined by guitarists Ricardo Anglada and Gabriel Lautaro Osuna from New Mexico.

All three have studied with flamenco masters, dedicated to the true spirit of flamenco. Along with their evening performances outdoors, they will teach workshops during the day.

The festival is also intended to be a cultural showcase, with an outdoor Mercado, cooking presentations, wine tasting, tapas and sangria.

More than 25 additional flamenco performers, most of them from Tucson, will bring their own individual flavors to this colorful event. They are: Barbara y las Flamencistas, Sophia Eva, Flamenco Por La Vida, Adair Landborn and Pena Flamenca, Flamenco del Pueblo Viejo Company, Jason Martinez, Mele Martinez, Misael Barraza, Angelina Ramirez, Jon Banuelos and Melissa Aguirre.

The First Tucson Spanish and Flamenco Festival runs Friday, Sept. 18, and Saturday, Sept. 19, from 8 p.m. -1 a.m.; on Sunday, Sept. 20, from 7 p.m.-10 p.m. The workshop schedule is still to be announced.

Tickets are $20 Friday and Saturday, $10 Sunday; $40 for a special package that includes all three days,  plus a wine tasting and one glass of sangria.
