ADAM HARANT CD review

The spirit of Bob Dylan is not only alive and well, but thriving with a Colorado accent in this self-produced CD by Adam H., whose father lives in Tucson. Adam wrote the songs, sings all the words and plays all the instruments.

What we get is a personal statement as direct as a handshake. This musician is ready to face life head on, greeting heartbreak like an athlete confronting his opponent. Somebody’s gotta win, somebody’s gotta lose, but either way he’d never pass up a chance to be in the game.

Working with a palette of unadorned harmonies that imply a blue collar life, Adam spins the sounds into an all-natural fabric that would wear well in any passionate protest from the Sixties. Just like the counterculture Dylan, who didn’t need a fancy soapbox, Adam uses notes of plain-spoken conviction to convey the intensity of how life’s ever changing winds affect our direction.

His tools are an acoustic guitar, bluesy harmonica, a bit of banjo and a flexible voice that can be light or heavy, cheery or deep. His own heartbeat provides the rhythm section, moving along with every grain of sand slipping through the hourglass of life.
